The Reason why they are the Best

The Amazing Staples Center opened it's Historic doors on October 20, 1999.
The first game to be played by the Lakers at their new home was against the Vancouver Grizzlies on November 3, 1999 ending with a 103-98 victory.

For 32 years 1967 -1999 the Lakers celebrated six NBA titles at the Forum in Inglewood!!  In 1972 , 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988 this amazing venue was known as the "Fabulous Forum".  Names like West, Chamberlain, Baylor, Goodrich and "Happy" Hairston entertained the crowds.

During the 80's, the L.A.  fans were introduced to "Showtime" featuring Hall of  Famers Magic, Kareem and Worthy. However role players like Wilkes, Nixon, Cooper, Scott, Rambis, McAdoo, Thompson and A.C. Green were the ultimate compliment. This group comprised the "TEAM OF THE DECADE"  Simply the best!!!!

Although The 90's didn't produce any championships, the Forum underwent a physical facelift as well as a name change.  Those corporate dollars could not be ignored, the ownership was offered 1 million dollars to rename the building to the Great Western Forum.  At that time it was an absolutely sweet deal.

The shinning moment of the 90s was the free agent signing of Shaquille O'Neal and the drafting of Kobe Bryant.  Those two were the foundation of the return to glory and the era of  "Purple Reign".  How sweet it was!!!!!!

Arriving from Minneapolis the Lakers occupied the Los Angeles Sports Arena from 1960-1967.  Clearly they needed a larger venue to showcase what was to become the greatest franchise on the planet, which led to the construction of the Fabulous Forum.   This incredible structure was ideal for the Hollywood atmosphere that is Los Angeles.  The stars came out and glamour was everywhere, although performing on the floor was considered to be blue collar hard work, the Lakers always gave the fans style, finesse and of course "SHOWTIME".
"CLASSIC"
This is what old school is all about, the home of the 5 time NBA Champion Minneapolis Lakers from 1948-1960...the Minneapolis Auditorium.   Mr. George Mikan, #99 was the original dominate man in the middle.  The legend of the "Laker" center began.
